Setting: Gilbert Harry Marvin Elementary School yard

Narrator: Today we are at the Marvin Elementary School where a group of students are very lazy and like to throw their trash on the ground. Lets join them as we see these four students in action.

Paper mint Patty: This school yard is so dirty - it's so cooooool!

Carley Cardboard: I think I'll throw this cardboard on the ground because I'm so tired and the garbage can is too far away for me to walk.

Pipi Plastic: I think this plastic bottle will look great right here. (throws bottle on ground)

Al Luminum: O K guys what do you think I should do with this aluminum can? (shows the can to the audience)

Paper mint: Throw it on the ground. Who cares.

Carley: Toss it somewhere. (Al tosses can on ground)

BAD GUYS LEAVE

Narrator: What a mess, Yuk, I wouldn'T want to be at that school. Lets see what these four kids are up to and how they can help make their school a better place.

GOOD GUYS ENTER

Ralphie: Look at this mess! These kids throw all their garbage on the ground.

Ricky: Look at all this paper and cardboard. We need to recycle it.

Ruby: Ms. Jones the art teacher can sure reuse these bottles in art class. (picks up bottle)

GOOD GUYS LEAVE

BAD GUYS ENTER FOLLOWED BY JANITOR JIM AND JANITOR AL

Janitor Jim: These kids are starting to get on my nerves with all this trash.

Janitor Al: Yeah, they have no respect for our community.

Paper mint: This school looks better when it's messy.

Carley: Yeah, we threw a bunch of trash just this morning.

Janitor Jim: So you are the ones who I am always picking up after.

Pipi: So, what do you care.

Janitor Jim and Al: We have to clean this mess up everyday and we should be recycling it.

Al: Recycle Scmickel, who cares.

BAD GUYS WALK AWAY AND GOOD GUYS ENTER AS JANITOR IS CLEANING UP

Ralphie: Janitor Jim, we will help you clean up this mess.

Rocky: Yeah, we can recycle most of the trash so that it can be used again.

Ruby: Yeah, Lets get 3 bins, one for paper and cardboard, one for plastic and one for aluminum.

RALPHIE, RICKY AND RUBY GET 3 BINS AS THE BAD GUYS COME BACK

Paper mint: Hey, what do you think you are doing to our masterpiece?

Carley: Yeah, it took us hours to make this look like this.

Pipi: Yeah, you ruined it big time.

GOOD GUYS ENTER

Ralphie: Did you know that one ton of paper can save 17 trees and 6953 gallons of water as well as, reduce pollution and make more space in our landfills?

Ricky: Yeah and they can reuse plastic and glass bottles, as well as, aluminum cans so that we can save our precious resources.

Ruby: About 75 percent of all the paper recovered in the U.S. is recycled into new paper and paper products.

Rocky: Also, almost 80 percent of all old boxes are recycled back into new ones.

Al: Well, well, we didn't know that.

Carley: We thought that it was the janitors job to pick up after us.

Ruby: It is every ones responsibility to pick up after themselves. You know what, we need to have a recycling program at our school so that we can help save our environment and make our school yard look clean and safe for everyone.

Janitor Jim: I have a great idea. Why don't you 8 start right now and spread the word about recycling to everyone in the school.

Paper mint; Yeah, maybe we can start a club and recycle our paper that we use in the classroom.

Ralphie: Yeah, and we can recycle our aluminum cans and plastic bottles that we bring for lunch.

Ruby: That is a great Idea. Let's work together and clean up our little area of our town and then maybe other schools will follow our example.

All: Yeah, Yeah lets do it!

THE SEVEN STUDENTS START PICKING UP AND PUTTING TRASH IN THE PROPER BINS.

Narrator: I am so happy with the way things turned out. They are making their school yard clean and safe for everyone in the school. They seem to be on a mission to reduce, reuse, and recycle their trash. So maybe you guys here at (SCHOOL NAME) can start your own recycling club and recycle paper and cardboard at your school. You can get bins from the East Orange Public Works Department and all the unused paper and cardboard from your classes can go in the bin and help make our environment cleaner. Here are some useful hints on recycling at your school. First, write on both sides of your paper, use a thermos bottle instead of a juice box, pack snacks and lunch into a plastic reusable container. So remember, recycling is good and it's the law, but it's better to think about ways to reduce trash, rather that finding places to put it. So be like Ralphie Recycle, Ricky and Rocky Reduce, Ruby Reuse, Paper Mint Patty, Carley Cardboard, Pipi Plastic, and Al Luminum and help make your neighborhood and school clean and Green. Thank you.
